The Rural Arcadian

Water - Stone - Wood - Air - Fire - Dogs - Food - Gardens - Wine - Cooking - Music - Outdoor Life - Space - Quiet and related.

Welcome to my 'life' blog. The Rural Arcadian.

It is my hope to be able to share images and related posts that reflect my surroundings, my experiences, my hopes, dreams and general interests. I live and work in a very rural setting.

I enjoy outdoor and nature-related activities in my free time as well great music, great real/slow food, cooking with friends, good wine, the ocean, the mountains, the forests fields and dogs. I camp. I hike. I sea kayak. I sail. I walk. I cook. I eat and drink.

Hopefully you find something here that connects with you in some way.

Thank you! Enjoy!!

Barn quilts are large-scale quilt squares painted on plywood or directly onto the outside of barns to celebrate the tradition of quilting, the enduring majesty of rural barn structures and all the communities whose shared appreciation has turned this local art form into a national phenomenon. It’s difficult to pinpoint the various ways barn quilts touch people’s lives; they often serve as memorials to lost relatives, sources of pride that bring families together, or just as beautiful displays of public art. There are thousands of barn quilts, many of which are strung together into local driving trails, that span 30 states from New York down to Texas.

Thanks to Suzi Parron for permission to use these photos. For more information you can visit her website or check out her book on the subject Barn Quilts and The American Quilt Trail Movement.
